2010 IWFF Festival
Charleston, South Carolina
22-25 April 2010
Spring is the optimal time for fishing in Charleston, South Carolina for fresh and saltwater fishers. Plan to join us in this beautiful, historic city for a weekend to make connections with women who share your live for fly fishing. This is a weekend to meet fly fishers from all over the world and to be able to learn from some of the best casters and anglers. There will be something of interest for anglers of all abilities.
Development…
There will be clinics for learning new skills and improving old ones. We will have a seminar to explain how to hold your own Regional Rendezvous and classes and experts available to help you learn what is new in the industry for women.
Fishing opportunities and technical stuff…
Inshore fishing includes all rivers, creeks, and waterways inland of the Atlantic Ocean. Preferred rod lengths are 7, 8, and 9 ft. The most actively targeted fish are the redfish and speckled sea trout which are available all year long. In the spring there are also flounder, snapper, bluefish, and ladyfish for fly fishing. Flies include Clouser minnow patterns, deceivers, and crab patterns.
Near shore fishing is located just off the beach and includes numerous artificial reefs. Rods recommended are 8 to 12 ft depending on the targeted species. Spanish mackerel, little tunny, spadefish, cobia, amberjack, are all available starting in April.
Offshore fishing is generally for Dorado, which are usually found about 25-30 miles (~ 40-48 km) off the beach. Best rods are 9 10 up to 12 wt with WF floating or intermediate lines.
More opportunities…
Weather, wind and sea conditions play an important role in access to the near shore and offshore fishery. Because of the extensive marshland pluff mud, inshore fishing is limited to access by boat. Boats are classified as flats boats which are best for sight fishing redfish. Space for two anglers, for half-day, starts at US$ 400. Bay boats are larger with space for 3 or 4 and start at US$ 500 for 4 hours. To arrange for charters, call +1 843 571 3899 or +1 843 884 2095. For any questions email David at the Charleston Angler (david@thecharlestonangerl.com).
Fellowship and fun stuff…
The Festival also includes a welcome cocktail reception and a banquet including our exciting auction.
You have to sleep somewhere…
Accommodation will be at the recently renovated Holiday Inn with IWFF guaranteed room rates of US$ 139 plus tax single or double occupancy. The hotel is within walking distance to the new park under the magnificent Cooper River Bridge with a fishing pier.
Après fishing…
When you are not fishing, the city of Charleston offers award winning restaurants, art galleries, museums, aquarium, and carriage tours, nearby plantations, golf, beaches and more.
How much…
Fees are US$ 150 for IWFF members and US$ 175 for non-members (which includes your membership fee).
